It’s been a couple of weeks since Gearbox Software kicked off the second season of Borderlands 3, where it’s enjoying an optimized version for PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Now we can enjoy trials of osiris on those three consoles at 60 fps stable, reaching up to 4K resolution, natively or dynamically. And the change is noticed an outrage.
This new pass is made up of two atypical expansions, as it does not stick to the DLCs of yesteryear, but opts for another kind of content. The one that has been available for days, and we will see it below, is Designer’s Cut, in which it debuts an arms race mode called Booty Slaughter in Pandora.
Don’t say Battle Royale, say Borderlands Royale
By means of a message from Axton and Salvador, we will be urged to travel to a new part of Pandora, Complejo Tuertormenta. An area that has a peculiarity: we will be stripped of all our equipment, even our skills!
There, our mission will be to defeat a boss located underground, being indispensable to have obtained some weapon scattered by the map. Because from the beginning, we will only attack with our fists. And without a shield, we’ll eat the boogers, wow…
It begins, therefore, a race to locate different coffers of booty with which to obtain weapons of different rarity, seeing how some enemies drop more equipment when defeating them. It’s like playing Borderlands 3 from scratch, but with the concern of watching the time and those warnings of the mortellino (a deadly whirlwind) that will reduce the safe zone and our lives progressively.
It is clear that Gearbox has taken the basic guidelines of the Battle Royale as a base, but on a smaller scale. After all, here we can play alone or accompanied by three people with whom we will have to collaborate until we defeat the above mentioned boss. And it’s not a complicated task, unless we activate the different degrees of Chaos mode, which now reaches the brutal figure of 11 levels of hardness.
Ideally, we would have liked to increase the number of players, competing with each other, not just another cooperative experience, but it’s nice that there is a totally different mode to what we were used to in a Borderlands… even though we have to pay for this new season. Because we are talking about 14.99 euros for this Designer’s Cut (which includes an extra tree for each House Finder, apart from more weapons and cosmetic details) or 29.99 euros for the whole second season lot.
